After a wonderful weekend in Chicago, we had the Travel Day From Hell today. Basically, we missed our 11 a.m. flight and got to the airport at 12 noon. We tried to fly standby on a 1 a.m. flight and were actually seated on the plane. Then, it was found that they miscounted the number of checked passengers and made us deplane.
Apparently, the two "missing passengers" had never gotten off the plane in the first place. So, we took a gamble and tried to fly standby on the 2:55 flight. We were able to get on that flight.
The entire time, Sydney is fussing and screaming from being overtired. She wanted to run on the moving walkway, tear through the airport on her own two feet.
The flight attendants on the SWA flight sensed our extreme irritability and proximity to losing it. In honor of Memorial Day, they gave all servicemembers a complimentary drink (Jack and Ginger Ale.) In honor of Sydney's birthday, they gave Mom (me) two free Jack and Ginger Ales.
It made an otherwise horrible travel day much much happier. As for Sydney, once we were on the plane, she was adorable - flirting with everyone and playing with her pretzels (new favorite snack food.)
